About the event
The suburb of Summer Hill was established when trustees of the Underwood Estate (pictured) convinced NSW Minister John Lackey to build a new railway station for them in 1879.
Summer Hill features one and two storey Victorian Filigree detached, semi- detached and terrace housing and Victorian Italianate style one and two storey houses. The area also contains Victorian period weatherboard cottages, Federation single storey detached houses as well as many Art Deco style residential flat buildings.
We inspect homes that uncover the secrets of the Italianate style, and explore the role of historic houses in a contemporary suburban setting.
