About the event

Join local tour guide Terry Gatward on the second of our series of walks around Manly.

We again head up Eastern Hill and this time enjoy exclusive access to St Patrick's Estate, now the ICMS campus, and known locally as the "castle on the hill".

This imposing landmark was established as the first national Catholic seminary in 1889 under the direction of Sydney’s third Archbishop, Cardinal Patrick Moran. Joseph Sheerin and John Hennessey designed the seminary in a blend of neo-Gothic and Romanesque styles and were awarded a medal for the architecture at the London’s Colonial and Indian Exhibition of 1886.

Moran House, four storeys high with a six-level central belltower, dominates the Manly skyline and is a must-see, not least given Baz Luhrmann transformed it into Jay Gatsby’s mansion for The Great Gatsby (2013).

Our two-hour tour also explores the southern end of Manly Beach, takes in Fairy Bower…
