About the event
Join historian Dr Edith Ziegler, who will be speaking about her new book, 'Merioola: The Story of a Fabled Sydney House'.
Merioola stood in grounds that today would be on the corner of Edgecliff Road and Rosemont Avenue and was built in 1859 by Mr John Edye Manning. It was home to the Allen family and, in the heady, post-War atmosphere of the 1940s, the artists, sculptors and designers known as the Merioola Group.
Edith has written the story of Merioola and its residents and their triumphs and tragedies over all the years of its existence. Copies will be on sale at the event.
Edith is a long-term member of the Historic Houses Association with a particular interest in social history. Previous works include 'Darling Mother, Darling Son: The Letters of Leslie Walford and Dora Byrne, 1929-1972' (2017) and 'The Worlds and Work of Clarice Beckett' (2022).
