About the event

This two-part guided visit is timed to visit the courts in session, which for the High Court is not that often in Sydney!

Part 1 - We’ll explore the inferior courts sitting at the historic Brickfield Hill courts precinct and aim to sit in on trials, sentence proceedings and bail applications in the Local Court and the District Court (depending on the day's listings).

Part 2 - Includes time at Queens Square in the CBD to see how the superior courts operate. We’ll visit the Supreme Court, the Federal Court and the High Court and may get to attend a murder trial or sentencing proceedings, a civil hearing and some appellate matters, depending on the list.

Both tours start at 9:30am (corner of George and Central Streets for Part 1 and at Queen's Square, corner of Macquarie St and St James Rd for Part 2).

Our guide Beatrice Scheepers is a retired lawyer with lengthy experience in and around the court system and the history of its operations. Beatrice has been conducting guided local history tours in the inner city precincts since the early 2000s.

NOTE: strict security measures are in place in the courts with aerosols and sharp/bladed/cutting instruments prohibited. Please be aware that a direction may be issued that court users wear a fitted mask and no photography is allowed in or near the court precinct.
