About the event
Established in 1901, Haberfield predates more famous garden suburbs such as Letchworth (1903) and Hampstead Garden Suburb (1906), both in England, and Hellerau (1909) in Germany.
Led by HHA Member and local expert, Vince Crow, our walking tour concentrates on the first subdivision of the Haberfield Estate, established by Richard Stanton’s Haberfield Proprietary Ltd. There were five subdivisions of the Haberfield Estate from 1901 to 1922.
The tour covers designs of Daniel Wormald, the Haberfield Estate architect from 1903 to 1904, and John Spencer-Stansfield, Haberfield Estate architect from 1905 to 1914, and examples of Federation period houses and Californian Bungalows.
We finish with afternoon tea where books on the history of Haberfield will be on sale (cash preferred).
